Our last LBY class has introduced you the knowledge on choices of slewing bearing, in today's class, we are going to present you the importance of the connection structure for slewing bearing.

Slewing bearings have limited rigidity, due to their relatively small cross sectional height compared to their diameter. The support structure should therefore be designed for maximum axial and radial rigidity. 

For this reason it is very important for 

1) the connecting structure to be sufficiently rigid, 

2) for the supporting surfaces to be sufficiently flat and 

3) for the bolted connection to be able to avoid any deformation caused by high stresses.

Otherwise, after fitting the slewing ring to the connecting structure, an irregular rotation torque may occur and this may cause the lockout of the slewing ring and a premature wear of the raceways.

The stiffness and flatness of the connecting structures and surfaces need be as uniform as possible in order to guarantee a homogeneous load transmission and to avoid stress concentration. For this purpose, fitting a circular reinforcing ribs in proximity of the raceway is recommended in place of a radial ribs. In order to eliminate any irregularities from previous machining, a final mechanical manufacturing of the supporting surfaces is also reccomended.
